A New Horizon
A New Horizon

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,  built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,  in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling  place for God by the Spirit.

– Ephesians 2:19-22

Growing Together

On January 28, 2018 South Gorham Baptist Church and SouthCoast Community Church unanimously voted to merge to become Summit Community Church with Pastor Travis Bush as the lead pastor. With new people joining each week, the congregation has grown substantially, proving that the two former churches are truly "better together."

In October of 2018, Summit entered into a two month consulting process to discern the vision and future direction of the church. During this process it became very clear that members of Summit wanted to be an outreach focused church, a church that plants churches, and eventually be in a new facility that would be "home."

In January 2020, the Summit leadership decided to put the Scarborough Campus on the market and within one month, Summit received an above-asking price offer and gladly accepted. With an original closing date set for May 2020, the perspective buyer continued to show interest through the COVID-19 pandemic. The original plan for Summit to move offices to the Gorham Campus and church services meet in the Gorham Middle School was, however, put on hold.

Summit staff and leadership are continuing work to secure land and work with a building company during the shutdown to try to continue moving the ball with the end goal of building our new home.

Brick Fundraiser

Brick purchases will help us with so many things: furniture, fixtures, kitchen equipment, etc. Each brick is available for purchase at $100. If you want to, you can include a message on each brick you buy. For example, you can dedicate it to someone, share a brief message, or part of your favorite verse.

Our goal is to sell 300 bricks to be used in a future prayer garden at the new location. We invite you to be a part of the future of Summit. This is indeed a great undertaking, and one that we pray honors God.
